Just for you

INVICTUS

I would like to share with you a lovely poem by William Ernest Henley – “Invictus”. Take a few moments of your time to ponder the words and let me know your thoughts. It is reputed to be the poem that sustained Nelson Mandela in prison all those years. How powerful an effect would it have on you? There is a movie by the same title telling the story about South Africa’s hosting and winning of the Rugby World Cup.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

That’s the end of the poem. Take charge, go ahead and be the master of your fate and the captain of your soul. In all your dealings make sure you are a stepping stone for others and not a stumbling block. If you help others in their quest to achieve their dreams you will achieve yours too.
